When one hears the words “luxury interior”, the first thing that comes to mind is the notion that it’s often associated with a lifestyle, rare or expensive furnishings, and finishes.

Certainly, luxury interior design is more than just buying expensive furniture. It’s about creating the living space that best fits your luxury lifestyle. In fact, if you avoid all the clichés, you will come up with your own definition of luxury and clarify the essence of your personality. Fortunately, even on a budget, you can get the high-end look you dream of. Here are some tips you can use to get the look of a luxurious elegant interior.

  • Color Scheme
  • Choose a neutral color that will be your signature hue throughout your home. A neutral color palette is something that many luxurious spaces have in common. Neutral color schemes feel clam, classic, and clutter-free. Elegant colors would include the neutrals such as gray, black, white, brown, taupe, beige, and even graige. Then use accessories to introduce other colors for textures and patterns. Make sure you apply the 60%-30%-10% decorating rule. These are proportions that are meant to give balance and rhythm to the colors used in any space. For example, 60% for the main neutral color on walls to anchor the space, then a 30% secondary color for the draperies, accent chairs, bed linens, and finally the 10% accent color for the pillows, decorative accessories, and artwork.

  • Uncluttered home is a must
  • Elegance and minimalism often go hand in hand "less is more" elegance is timeless, clean, and refined, it's less about what you want to include and more about what you want to leave out.

All luxurious and elegant homes have one thing in common: zero clutter. Decide which items are worth displaying and which items can be put in storage. Minimizing your clutter will help the room feel bigger and improve your spatial design. Add the essential pieces and try to match one piece with the other.

  • Invest in statement pieces
  • To make your home look more expensive, you do not have to spend a fortune. Invest in statement pieces such as artworks, a mirror, and quality pieces of rich fabrics for window treatment, or a leather sofa. Usually, one large statement art piece will shout out EXPENSIVE. If you have a few expensive pieces, people naturally assume that the other components are expensive as well.

  • Layer Lighting
  • It's a great way to create a mood with layered lighting. Begin with general lighting like ambient lighting to illuminate the entire room. In addition, be sure to have several different light sources, including table lamps and floor lamps throughout the home to increase the elegant feeling. Finally, add accent lighting such as recessed light, or picture light to highlight the art or any statement piece creating an amazing focal point. The idea is to have your eye travel around the room and let it land on surfaces that you intend to draw the viewer into.

  • Architectural Detailing
  • Details such as crown moldings make a room look complete or finished; it brings the ceiling and the walls together, giving them an elegant appearance. Panel molding on the wall, wainscoting, and chair railing can all be applied to the surface giving the space more life, and texture by making the room seem a lot more high-end.

  • Accessorize your home
  • Luxury in the home calls for thoughtful attention to detail. There are many affordable ways to accessorize your home while staying within your budget. Accessories such as adding plants, vases, pillows, and rugs make a huge difference. You’ll want to select accessories and accents that complement the entire space and tell a story. By doing so, you’ll create a cohesive visual narrative – rather than items standing out solely on their own.
