I (Caroline) first learned of the Berber tribes in the Atlas Mountains while working on my art history degree. Their creation of one-of-a-kind carpets for use in their own homes instantly charmed me. I became completely enthralled with the vibrant designs and beautiful handiwork, and immersed myself in the ancient Moroccan history, discovering that each region + tribe has their own signature carpet design and color palette.
Over the next few years as our knowledge and love for these pieces grew, we traveled to Morocco to experience firsthand this incredible culture and their art. During these visits, we have had the privilege of becoming friends with passionate and enthusiastic experts who source these vintage carpets ethically, and truly support the artisans and their craft. This entire process is a labor of love that is exciting and inspiring, as you never know what masterpiece you are going to find. It’s an honor to share these works of art with you, as you enjoy the color and kaleidoscopic history that having a Coco in your home brings.
WHY COCO CARPETS ARE DIFFERENT
Moroccan-inspired rugs abound in the design world and the pages of shelter mags. It’s a vibrant style we love celebrating as it brings awareness to a culture close to our hearts + a timeless aesthetic we know will be around for years to come. When you invest in a Coco Carpet you are not only purchasing an authentic, one-of-a-kind Berber rug, but also supporting the Azilal and Boucherouite people who made it.
