The History
The Mrirt Berber Tribe produces what's locally known as "shadow carpets". Interestingly, Mrirt women don't use specific designs, but rather they replace designs with shadow wool vegetables colors.
The Artisan
This vintage rug was made by a woman of a Berber tribe in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.
Approximately 20-30 years old, this carpet would have originally been made by a Berber woman for personal use in her own home. She created it with wool and small portions of cotton thread, and permitted herself personal freedom in expressing her own creativity and values through North African symbology and colors as she wove these designs.
The Look:
This piece is one of a kind, and can be used as a rug or wall hanging.
The dark, vibrant purple color, as well as its size (8’8”x6’3”) turn this rug into a statement piece, making it the perfect choice for large, light colored rooms.
The Feel
Soft to the touch, with a medium pile, the Apollonia rug will bring warmth and courage to any setting.
Care Tips
If you will be using it as a rug, we would suggest placing a non-stick pad underneath it to preserve the weave and keep it from sliding.
